Terrifying Shark Encounter Caught On Camera
Mat surfer enters a state of panic far from shore.
Roger Essig was indulging in a pleasant mat surf at Gunnamatta Beach in Melbourne when he noticed a 1.8-meter shark swimming beside him.
“All of a sudden, it’s not like I saw it approach, the shark was just magically there, almost like a magic trick,” Essig told ABC.
“The first thought was, ‘It’s obviously targeted me, and it’s snuck up on me. This shark clearly knows what it’s doing. It’s a predator with millions and millions of years of evolution’.
“That was the first half-a-second of thought; then it was just panic from there.”
Essig kicked like hell to get back to shore, but with no waves to give him a push, it took him almost 10 minutes to get to the beach. “It’s a long time to be realizing you are out in the water with a shark,” he noted.
The horrifying event was all documented on Roger’s 360-degree action camera.
