Who Is Lennox Chell, And Why Has The State of NSW Impounded His Vehicle?

Kids are better than they’ve ever been, and I’m not just talking surfing.

If you follow skateboarding at all you’ve likely noticed the difficulty of tricks in your daily insta scroll skyrocket over the past 5 years. Basketball players are declaring themselves NBA ready at younger and younger ages, others are developing top level skills in multiple sports. Progression is natural, sure, but it’s safe to say we have never seen such a high volume of young talent, well, ever. 

Enter Lennox Chell. When Lennox first hit us up we honestly thought that someone from our Australian office accidentally shared their location with us. Suffice to say, we were surprised to find a 3 minute edit which included some incredibly smooth style and more than enviable chip shots, and even more surprised that we had yet to hear of the young up-and-comer.

So who is Lennox Chell? We gave him a ring to find out. 

Were you named after the wave?

(Laughs) Yes, I was named after the wave.

Who taught you to surf?

My mum got me into it, which I guess is fitting cause she is the one who named me. She used to take me and my sister down to the beach almost everyday so I picked it up from there.

Who’s your surfing hero?

My surfing hero would have to be Shaun Cansdell. I know it’s a bit of a throwback, but I love his part in Stranger Than Fiction.

Best tip for catching a chip-shot.

The best tip for catching a chip shot would have to be work with Chris Heighington and paddle hard. I guess that’s two tips, so if you can’t do the first definitely do the second.

Was your car really impounded?

Yes (sighs). It got defected for being too high, having too big of wheels and a tint that was too dark. I got given two weeks to get it fixed, then a couple days later got pulled over by different cops who were fuckwits and defected me for the same things. They impounded it straight away. So brutal. 

Do you have to walk to surf now?

I’m just using mums car now as I’m too lazy to walk. Thanks mum!

Where’s the first place you’re going when you get your car back?

I’d love to sell this one, it’s just caused me so much grief. Once I do that I’ll get another and hopefully go up north with my girlfriend for a bit.
