Recycled Vegan Slides, Just In Time For Australian Summer

Indosole: smart idea, handsome product.

Slides are here to stay.

Most comfortable things are, let’s face it, pretty ugly.

Track pants in public? No thanks.

But slides are the exception. Whilst I admire those who make an effort with their appearance on a daily basis, I personally can’t be bothered to lace up the boots to grab a coffee or check the surf. I guess when you get older cycles start repeating themselves, and one is certainly the bore of having to dress yourself daily. It’s similar to when you no longer have to wear school uniform to class – for the first few weeks it’s the most exciting thing in the world, then you realise that you don’t have that many clothes, don’t like half of them much, and that having to wear the same thing as everyone else everyday was actually quite convenient.

Slides are like school uniform. Well, sort of.

Socks and slides: officially acceptable and comfy as hell.

Indosole is a neat company who do one thing well. They make slides (and thongs/jandles/flip flops, but to be honest toe-splitters aren’t our thing) out of rubber tyres that otherwise would have been burned or dumped in landfill. If you’re not aware of the hazards of burning rubber (not metaphorically) or clogging up landfill then here’s a useful website for you. But for those who don’t know, 1.5 billion used tyres end up discarded each year, and this cute brand is the perfect storm of guilt-free retail therapy.

There’s no shortage of slides out there, but the perspective buyer’s caught between Nike/adidas/Vans like everyone else, or dropping a ludicrous amount on a pair of slips from one of the major fashion houses. While we’re all for splashing on nice things, dropping £321 (which even though the UK’s circling the drain still equates to almost $400 US) on a pair of Bottega Veneta leather slides is, essentially, madness. Indosole slides are sleek, durable, and free of the heinous branding that’s a common trait amongst slip ons.

Effectively simple.

Indosoles come in a range of colours, including a handsome shade of green called “leaf”, which is a particular favourite of ours. If you’re over wearing shoes, like driving barefoot but hate lacing up at the petrol station, or just want something to slip on at the beach after taking a summer’s dip then we’d highly recommend embracing the humble slide. Oh and remember: the socks and sandals faux pas went out with Tamagotchis.

Save a tyre from the pile.
