XCEL Produces The Most Consistently Quality Wetsuit On The Market

An analysis from Stab’s search for the world’s best wetsuit.

In order to throughoutly conduct our wetsuit test, we split it up into 6 categories that, based off information presented in our Stab Reader survey, the average consumer considers before buying new rubber.

Those categories were the warmest 3mm or 3/2mm; The most flexible and comfortable 4/3mm; the most aesthetically pleasing; the best 4/3 for under $300USD; the best LUX suit (over $450USD); and the fastest drying.

For the test, XCEL sent us three suits to span across almost all categories. Those suits were the Drylock X 3/2mm, the Comp X 4/3mm and the Drylock X 4/3mm.

We will first get into the Drylock X 3/2mm. Although none of the four testers nominated the Drylock X 3/2mm to sit in the category of ultimate warmth, there were no complaints about the piece of rubber. It did its job. And, if you’re a loyal XCEL customer or are looking to try out a new suit, we’d give a recommendation towards it. The Drylock X 3/2mm retails for $384.95USD, will keep you warm, comfortable and loose in the water. It’s been tried, tested and approved.

The suit that stood above the rest was the Comp X 4/3mm. The Comp X is warm, cozy and understated. It features Nanoprene Lite Japanese Limestone and has a thermo liner from the chest down to the knee. It’s got minimal logos for those who aren’t trying to make a statement, and is a fine choice for anyone looking for a high quality suit under $400USD (364.95USD).

You’d be doing yourself a favor purchasing a Comp X to get through winter.

The last suit presented by XCEL is their Drylock X 4/3mm, which runs just under 500USD (499.95USD) and was Noah’s favorite for the LUX category. The wrists on the Drylock X are sealed by a red binding that keeps water completely out. Which is great for surfers who like to stay as dry as possible in their suit. Although, if you let water in from it being too warm, the water will fill and sit at your wrists and ankles. Just a small problem with the technology’s efficiency, and an easily resolved issue. Just pull the suit from your wrists, let the water drain and continue to surf.

Across the board, as decided by Jesse, Noah, Blair and I, you honestly can’t go wrong with an XCEL Wettie.

If your looking for a solid wetsuit the XCEL comp will steer you right.
