Coached In Dubai, Crushed At Mullaghmore
Mo Rahma literally learnt to surf in a wavepool.
This is probably Mo Rahma’s least expensive wipeout. Seriously, he normally pays for this sort of mistreatment.
See, Mo is from Dubai. A region that, while situated adjacent to the Persian Gulf, is wave-starved year round. Which is unfortunate for someone like Mo, as he has life-long aspirations of being a surfer. So in order to feed his cerulean desires Mo has to drive, twice a month, across the desert for an hour-and-a-half session at the Wadi Wavepool in Al-Ain. A trek that usually costs him $30 in gas, another $30 to enter the Wadi facility, and $60 for the session itself — each wave coming in at about $10 a pop. He’ll never paddle more than 20 metres, never has to duck-dive, and every time he falls it’s $10 quite literally down the drain. But, he still surfs, which is good enough for him.
Or so one would think. Apparently, the chlorinated appetisers aren’t enough for Mo — he wants the full salt-water dinner. Which is why he made a reservation at Mullaghmore Head. The mutant, cold-water death-ledge off the coast of Ireland.
Things go about as well as you would imagine. While his tenacity is certainly applaudable, his background and preparation probably isn’t adequate for these type of conditions. And, like Ikea furniture, everything falls apart on account of his missing of a few crucial steps.
