Breaking: California Governor Newsom To Announce Statewide Beach Closures Following Orange County Crowding
This is why we can’t have nice things.
Well, that didn’t last long.
According to several sources California Governor Gavin Newsom will announce the closure of all California beaches, after crowds descended on Orange County beaches following their reopening.
There were more than 200 new Coronavirus cases in Orange County over the weekend, and a county worst day to date with 123 cases reported on Saturday (and 103 on Sunday.)
According to Fox 11, investigative reporter Bill Melugin was given “a law enforcement bulletin that will be sent out to all California police chiefs notifying them that Gov. Newsom will announce Thursday that he is closing all beaches and state parks effective Friday, May 1st.”
We’ve heard mixed reports on whether the closures will include a ban on surfing and oceansports (or whatever they’re calling things that involve solitary humans bobbing in the brine). Several sources have claimed on good faith the closures would only impact beachgoers, sunbathers, what have you.
Oh, for fuck’s sake we hope so.
Melugin posted the police bulletin to his Twitter, which you can read below:
