Unidentified “Ex-Pro” Surfer Dies Night Surfing Topanga
Moonlight session ends in tragedy.
A moonlight session at Topanga State Beach ended in tragedy late Thursday night after a surfer was found unresponsive in the lineup.
Witnesses had called in reports of screams on the beach from the nearby Arco gas station and at around 11:40 PM responding LA County Sheriff’s Deputies came upon the pair.
The man’s body had been found by his brother after the two became separated in the dark. Upon discovery the survivor brought his brother to shore, where attempts at CPR proved unsuccessful.
The victim, reportedly a former professional, and his brother are both said to be highly experienced surfers. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Morgan Arteaga has stated that the cause of death was a “medical episode,” but provided no further details.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
