Kelly Slater’s nomadic lifestyle is, at worst, goddamn desirable. It’s no less than surfing’s Mike Jordan deserves. After competing in the Quik Pro, Snapper Rocks, the champ headed down to Sydney for a snatch-and-grab run to Cape Solander with auteur Taylor Steele. Then, he headed back up to Gold Coast to hang until Bells. Or, WA. Or, wherever the next swell hits. Who really knows, except for Kelly himself?
After swimming behind the rock during low tide, photog Simon Muirhead was pulling his camera gear apart when Kelly bolted past. With the rip becoming increasingly heinous, he decided to go shoot from on the rock itself. At which point, Kelly threw himself into this lurching thing. Doesn’t matter where he’s surfing, the champ always looks dialled-in.
