As Stab detailed extensively, Craig Anderson’s shockingly good new film, Slow Dance, directed by Dane Reynolds, premiered in Tokyo last week. And as we signed off on the magic that was Robot Restaurant, we made note that Craig and Dane would next head for Europe. That has since happened, and today we have the pleasure of some of Dane’s Basque Country visions. Zarautz fired up the first Euro premiere for Slow Dance at MODELO Theatre (following a signing at Pukas surfstore, where some oblivious teens mistook Dane’s gal, Cortney, for the “famous” person and requested a signature, which she accompanied with messages like “how’d you get so special?” or “stay tiny” to the smaller ones. Just great.)
For those who are yet to see the film (what are you doing?), the opening minutes are sprinkled with shots of Craig on a 6’5″ single fin at Pipe. We mention this, because Dane included in his wrap: “while he didn’t get the wave of the winter or anything, it’s still pretty fucken gnarly to have nearly zero experience out there and catch a few waves off second reef on a 6’5 single fin. in my opinion at least…”
So, back to premiere. Local guru and crazy good tube pig Aritz Aranburu introduced the star and director, Craig and Dane presented the film, 500 thrill-seekers drank in the hypnotic, 30-minute colour surf film. The following night, the film was shown at the Quiksilver Boardriders House in Hossegor.
“i barely made it past the movie on the last night,” writes Dane on Marine Layer Productions. “craig went on to italy and said it was insane. lots of psyching kids. wow i look horrible i just looked again (see last photo). i went home where i’m currently recuperating. that’s pretty much all from slow dance. hope everyone enjoyed the movie.”
