The Limit Does Not Exist

Alex Knost and Lee Ann Curren design boundary-less apparel.

I heard once that when a human accesses a higher level of consciousness – be it via meditation, near-death experience or good old fashioned chemical assistance — it can become difficult to decipher the dividing lines between self and other; i.e. where one ends and ‘everything else’ begins.

Basically, in this state of altered (and, arguably, heightened) awareness, the walls defining our world get fuzzy and the realization that everything is not only connected, but is a (literal) particular continuation of the same thing, becomes very, very real. Atoms, molecules, chairs, flowers, you, me, the universe… EVERYTHING! Infinite singularity. Yeah…whoa.

Conversely, on a lower, day-to-day (let’s call it) plane of consciousness, the human brain is hardwired to identify patterns in everything around us. Its primary responsibility is to process information, make sense of it and organize it into its own neural cubbyhole for eventual retrieval — kinda like that bar of wax you hid somewhere special on the beach. You may never find it again, but you know it’s there.

We don’t know what’s happening but we love it. AK by Vans.

It is this dominant, analytical part of our mental makeup that drives us to also instantaneously place simple labels on everything — and everyone — we encounter. As convenient as this timeworn practice of labeling may be, no one person can be summed up in a singular sentiment. It’s just too limiting.

It is in this spirit that Vans presents yet another boundary-crushing (or, more accurately, boundaryless) capsule of wearables goods – designed to be lived in and enjoyed by no one – and, thereby, everyone – in particular. Alongside remarkable humans and Vans Surf team members Lee-Ann Curren and Alex Knost – each icon known for their respective tastemaking in a ridiculously-varying range of self-expression – the triple-collab is offered as a palette, existing to be utilized as such. Style it as you will, wear it as you like: fitted, oversized, snug or inside out. The limit does not exist.

A style for no one in particular. LAC by Vans.

Keeping all the obligatory -ity’s top of mind (versatility, inclusivity, fluidity), this 11-piece collection brings together 90s-inspired Cobainian charm, forward-thinking fabrication and on-trend attire featuring bespoke hand-drawn elements by LAC herself. There’s even a luxe fuzzy sweater to help set you on your own journey of blurred-line living. You go, Glen Coco.

Suffice it to say, to see one of the biggest footwear and apparel brands to do it, take a waffle-soled step outside the rigid lines of identificationism, and into the infinite space of all that is, truly, quite fetch.
