You Don’t Need To Surf To Garner A Sponsor
South Coast combo, Hockey Dad, join the ranks of Ozzie Wright and Noa Deane at Volcom.
Who didn’t want to score a few stickers or maybe even a few tees to claim they were sponno’d as a grommet? I’m certain every kid whose ever surfed always hoped for a sponsorship at some point, unfortunately, there isn’t quite enough buck to go around – especially for those who aren’t quite professionally apt in the salt.
Not being professional surfer’s didn’t stop the South Coast duo that is Hockey Dad from joining the Volcom team though.
The stereotypically categorised ‘surf-rockers’ fall under Volcom’s ethos, “True To This”, and subsequently found themselves as the newest brand ambassadors for the Stone.
Zach Stephens and Billy Fleming might not be exciting in terms of aquatic performance, but from experiencing their gigs first hand, there’s more than enough crowd surfing going down to supplement the sponsor.
The two grew up surfing together on the South Coast and eventually transitioned to being bandmates. They recently dropped their second full length, ‘Blend Inn’, which was rumoured to be on loop at Volcom HQ and now the boys be sporting the Stone each stop of the tour.
No one’s ever going to complain about a little bit of free gear being thrown their way.
If you like three chords, swooning vocals and a whole heap of moshing bodies, then keep your eyes peeled next time HD roll around your local establishment.
