The Pick Up: “It’s Like The World Heavyweight Championship”

Welcome back to Vans x Stab’s “The Pick Up”, a web series featuring the brighter shades of the Triple Crown of Surfing, its many faces and rich history.

The Pick Up is our joint celebration of the crescendo of surfing’s calendar, where dreams are made, broken and inspired on the electrified shores of Hawaii’s North Shore.

One person who shares our enthusiasm for the several opening weeks of the winter season is Nathan Florence.

Growing up on Oahu helped make him the proficient waverider he is today. It’s also (like many of us) infected him with an incurable travel bug that’s repetitively lead him across the globe in search of super-sized perfection.

While the fruits of his wanderings are obvious in the clips and stills we see of him year after year, Nathan admits that during the Triple Crown’s annual North Shore takeover, there’s no place he’d rather be.
