Stab Podcast: Who’s The Most Dangerous Wildcard In Portugal?

Supertubos is calling. Who will pick up?

We all know Moana Wong didn’t get a wildcard into Portugal. If you want to know why, read this.

With the Pipe winner out of contention, and two non-CTers taking home victories already this year, an important question looms: who will be the most dangerous wildcard at the next event — Supertubos, Portugal?

Options include: (Men) Barron Mamiya, Caio Ibelli, Matthew McGillivray, Vasco Ribeiro, Justin Becret, and Afonso Antunes; (Women) Bronte Macaulay and Tia Blanco.

In this episode of the Stab CUSP, myself (Mikey C) and special guest Jimmy ‘Jimmicane’ Wilson will discuss the wildcard topic, among other Portugal-related matters, while our humanitarian host Stace is busy saving all manner of Australians from these savage floods.

This is the official Stab Rescue and Retrieval Team. Onya boys.

To answer the question posed in the title (generally a good thing to do), I think Vasco Ribeiro is gonna do the most damage at this event. He’s an incredible power surfer, he knows the wave (and its many moods) better than anyone on Tour, and he’s certainly not afraid of a top seed.

Jimmy believes that Barron has the skill set to do exceptionally well at Supertubos — the question is how that gold jersey will feel on his shoulders — like a ton of bricks, or an impervious pair of wings?

Listen to the full episode above for our full takes, including Jimmy’s impassioned rant about the mid-year cut.
