Photolyfe: Caleb Keller

“All the late nights, early mornings, bad coffee, gas station food, car troubles, crazy weather, blistered feet are all what makes getting the shot you’re looking for so satisfying.”

Welcome back to PhotoLyfe, in which Stab’s favourite photographers answer questions about themselves with their own images. It’s that old picture-tells-a-thousand-words chestnut but with more colour and pop. It’s a way to cut out all the bullshit. It’s like jacking into the main vein of those who supply us with exquisite surf imagery every day. Give thanks by studying each image with a more careful eye than ever!

Caleb Keller is 22, born and raised in Huntington Beach. To pay the bills, Caleb plays the freelance game as a photographer and videographer specialising in outdoor, lifestyle, product, and assorted commercial projects. Getting out of bed ain’t so hard when you’re doing what you love, right?

He first popped up on Stab’s radar with a gorgeous Malibu lineup frame snapped from the sky, which he promptly slid into our DM inbox sometime in the back half of last year. We shared, the double taps mounted, we scrolled his page, dug what we were seeing and put forth a Photolyfe proposition.

“Being a photographer you get to document history from your own perspective,” he said, introducing himself. “The photos can take you back to that exact time and space in your mind when you see them. You can remember the smells, the wind, the mood. Its just a really cool way to kinda take yourself back in time. I really enjoy seeing what other photographers are doing too and it’s all inspiring to me. All the late nights, early mornings, bad coffee, gas station food, car troubles, crazy weather, blistered feet are all what makes getting the shot you’re looking for so satisfying. It’s the pay off for capturing that image you saw in your mind that motivates you to start planning that next trip that may seem crazy to most people, but you know that feeling and it keeps you pushing for the next shot. I guess you could say photography is an addiction for me.”
