Mason Ho’s Love Letter To Waco (And Thoughts On Stab High 2.0)

Stab: Give it to us straight, how was Stab High last year?

Mason: Stab High last year was such a BLAST. I was wishing it would never end. Like. I was hoping we could all just live there together for the next couple years, no joke. Keep the scores, clocks, and waves going for a couple years straight!
Everybody was really cool, and fun to hang with. Plus, a couple of my heroes were there just chillllinnnnnn.

So last year, I remember you looking me straight in the eye and just saying: “If I’d known I was that close to landing the Christ Air I would have just landed it.” That’s some Zen, Bruce lee shit right there. Explain. And is that the trick you’re most psyched to try again?

Ummm, yeah. I remember practicing the Christ Air a couple of times before the event, but not too seriously—and it felt tricky. But when I tried it again in the contest, I got close and it felt somewhat… easy. So, I’m claiming next time I’m gonna go super zen mode and try again [laughs].

What was your favorite part about last year?

My favorite part of last year was making the cut for the final, and doing the Nathan Fletcher Acid Drop contest.

Usually, I like to be smart with my energy and ligaments for a contest that you can EASILY win $25,000. But that event was so fun, I literally had no clue what I was doing ’til it was over.

We’ve got Gorkin and Shea in the judges’ tower this year. What’s going to impress them (besides a Gorkin flip).

I think they’ll enjoy something really BIG, clean, and not done before. Shea always did big, clean airs so that’s part of the aim. I’ve been trying to copy Gorky since long as I can remember, he’s always pioneering new moves/flips plus going high and clean so ill try aim for that as well to stoke him out.

See ya in Texas, stud.

Stoked. see you soon!
