JJF And HOV Like You’ve Never Seen Before

If you’re like us, the behind the scenes stories and machinations of large scale projects probably pique your interest.

Earlier this year, we were working with Oscar-award winning musician Alberto Bof, at his backyard studio in Los Angeles. Alberto is an Italian surfer living in LA and scores documentaries, films and most notably won an Oscar in 2019 for “Shallow.” Yup, that “Shallow.” As in Bradley Coops and Gaga’s “Shallow.” Anyways, we wrangled a deal with Alberto to score the “Electric Acid Surfboard Test” with Steph Gilmore. We initially wanted to bring him along on the trip but the dates lined up almost directly with the Oscars ceremony. While Mozambique was attractive, understandably, he wasn’t going to miss Hollywood’s big night out.

Earlier this year, we were in his studio surrounded by a sound system worthy of an Oscar-winning producer. Alberto said, “Hey, I want to show you this clip of John John.”

A little backstory: When John and Blake Kueny were putting together their brilliant biopic, “View from a Blue Moon,” they’d commissioned Alberto to create the sound design for the closing Pipeline section. He worked with Japanese musician Aska and then dared to meld it with Jay-Z’s PSA. When we sat in his studio with the volume at 11, our minds melted.

In the end, the Jay-Z track couldn’t get copyright clearance. So, the film’s final cut featured Glass Animals’ “Gooey” remixed by Gilligan Moss instead.

We’ve been hitting up Alberto to see if we can legally run this version. We have it, and we think a small portion of the world needs to see it, which is why this post is backdated ten years and kept off our main feed.

The reason we’re bringing your attention to this is that you’ve financially supported our projects in the past. We really appreciate the support.
