An Easy “The Life You Help Save Might Be Your Own” Situation

If you dug ‘Gravity” give freely to the North Shore Junior Lifeguards

The North Shore is a gift to the international surfing world: the backdrop to its most dramatic competitive moments, ground zero for the most high-density talent pool of surfers on earth, a big wave guantlet, and so much more.

And all of that happens with a sense of relative safety and security, thanks to the North Shore Lifeguards, who keep their watchful eyes over the international surfing community that visits the islands each year.

One of the most important duties the North Shore Lifeguards offer the community of Oahu is their Junor Lifeguards programs, which has graduated countless world class surfers over the years (JJF, Barron Mamiya, Moana Jones-Wong etc.) Many of our favorite surfers garnered their hardened, confident approach in heavy conditions from their time spent training with guys like Dave Wassel, Pomai Ho’opili, Andrew LaGreco, and the President of the Lifeguard Association, and Stab‘s close comrade each season in Hawaii, Kyle Foyle.

“We are committed to providing this program to the public for free” Kyle tells Stab.“Unfortunately, as budgets get tighter, NSLA needs to raise funds ourselves in order to pay for the permitting, instructors, gear and administrative needs that this program requires. In Summer 2022, we provided 7 weeks of instruction for over 400 kids ages 8 – 17. We hope to do the same in 2023, if not more! “

Support the North Shore Junior Lifeguards GoFund me effort here.

Here’s the North Shore Junior Lifeguards elevator pitch, if you still needed convincing to support an inarguably wonderful organization.

In 2022, NSLA’s Junior Lifeguard Program served over 400 youth, ages 8-17, for a total of 155 hours, empowering them with critical life-saving skills and ocean knowledge FOR FREE. This program, held at Waimea Bay for ages 8-11 and ‘Ehukai Beach Park for ages 12-17, has tangible results. Some Junior Guard graduates will go on to be the next stars of the WSL, like John John Florence, Betty Lou, Barron Mamiya and Moana Jones. Some will be expert watermen and women that protect and serve alongside North Shore’s finest. Many will have the natural skills to prevent accidents and provide help in emergencies along the Seven-mile Miracle and beyond.

Since NSLA provides this program for free to the community, fundraising is needed in order to obtain: necessary permits, website and registration maintenance, daily instructors, rescue tubes, rescue boards, and a tent.

Your donation is 100% tax deductible (EIN: 99-032919).
