What The Hell Is A Nose-Pick Underwater Reverse?

A rose by any other name does not smell quite as sweet.

A Club Sandwich, occasionally referred to as a Clubhouse Sandwich, is made with chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. If presented correctly, it is halved or quartered, with each section pierced delicately by a cocktail stick.

It is also the name of a maneuver in surfing.

Surfing’s Club Sandwich is a frontside grab-rail reverse done under the lip.

Josh Kerr did one in a comp in 2007, the name somehow stuck, and you’ve seen ‘em now and again ever since.

Sebastian Zietz ain’t afraid to do one. Jeremy Flores has a solid one under his beret. Filipe Toledo’s are sick.

Filipe stuck a sick one, in fact, just two days ago at the Quik Pro, but according to the WSL, it wasn’t a Club Sandwich.

It was a “Nosepick Underwater Reverse.”

A.

Nose-pick.

Underwater.

Reverse.

Huh?

I don’t really blame Pottz or Joe Turpel for their commentary — it gets hot in that booth.

But it is a strange move for the governing body of surfing to double-down on making a fairly common maneuver sound like Jacques Cousteau is jamming his fingers up his French beak, backwards.

Especially considering the fact that they’ve previously posted clips and referred to it as a Club Sandwich.

“Wow, one of… those.

On their YouTube channel, a gentleman named “Cum Guzzler” picked up on the inconsistency:

The WSL is really trying hard to not give credit to the trick. It’d a club sandwich and has been done by Josh Kerr, Wayne, and a whole lot of other people before Felipe. I guess they’re trying to match the NFL in drama!”

Good shit, Wayne. Cum Guzzler is stoked for you.

Anyway, WSL, good luck with the air tour. Here’s to hoping nobody does a Passion Pop.
