And Now… A Really Warm Wetsuit By Rip Curl
Mick Fanning and cyborg endorsed!
Earlier this year, we reviewed Rip Curl’s Flashbomb Plus, the warmest suit I’ve ever worn – perhaps even a little too toasty for the temperate Sydney winter.
Now, Rip Curl’s taken it a step further with a new addition to their Flashbomb range, the Heat Seeker, which the Curl believes is their “warmest Flashbomb ever”.
It has all the usual bells and whistles that adorn their high end range: E5 flash lining, stretch neoprene, liquid mesh, and a zipperless entry. In addition, this new suit is boasting is some tech which Rip Curl are calling ‘Flex Energy’.
A type of neoprene which generates heat as you move, presumably as your body generates heat, the wetsuit amplifies and maintains it.
“We actually discovered this technology in the athletic wear sector,” Cameron Lamperd, Rip Curl’s wetsuit chairman said. “That was about three years ago, and after multiple iterations of adapting the technology we finally got it right.”
In conjunction with the liquid mesh on the suit’s torso, there’s little chance you’ll be cold regardless of water temps, wind chill, or even if you’re just sitting idle waiting for a set.
Since Australia and the rest of the Southern Hemi is approaching summer, the suit is only available in North American and Northern Hemisphere stockists. So if you’re starting to shiver at the fear of an impending winter, then here’s one suit that’ll have you covered.
Head over to Rip Curl’s US site here to peruse the range and other suits in their offering.
Easter egg: If you’re a fan of Australian psych-lords King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, you’ll notice an uncanny resemblance between the voiceover plugging Rip Curl’s new suit in this clip, and the cyborg, Han-Tyumi, present on their 2017 album, “Murder of the Universe.”
