My first insta video post! This healthy Galapagos shark followed me in from spearfishing one day and was buzzing the shoreline trying to find the source of the smell (I had speared a couple fish that were on my belt kui). I’d seen Galapagos Sharks beach themselves before, and wanted to see if he’d have a go. I had no intention of letting him have part of one of my fish, but he got the last laugh in the end. I only use it to put a little space between me and the shark should it get a little frisky (and it was sturdier than the broom stick on the boat). The cameras clamp around the dorsal fin and don’t hurt the shark at all. There’s a Zinc wire that holds it closed and is meant to dissolve within two hours causing it to detach and float to the surface where it is retrieved. Something went wrong with the process and three hours later it was still on Bruce’s back. Had to take the wire cutters down and do it by hand when he came in for the bait. Rob Machado has been retired, like, forever but he has never lost his relevance hence his strong standing socially. I was 13 years old when my dad and I moved into our house in Rutledge st on Kirra hill. This was the view I woke up to during my teenage years and where my surfing took off. His account used to be called @Julianwilsonofficial and it was as if the account was managed by a manager while he held his own private account. But, for social media to work it needs to be real and he took control of the account and left the awkward “official” from his account. Julian’s page is very much business and he is reliable. He works on #sequencesundays and makes short edits with Jimmy Lees called #jwminiclips. He’s a good follow. And, those I heart @Ashley_oh uploads ain’t the worst things either.

Mick’s last minute 9.7 to world title victory #seriouslytrended when thousands of photos of TVs in living rooms across the world (featuring an arms-in-the-air Mick) were uploaded in unison. When you win something significant (a world title or an oscar or an election), all those congratulatory Instagram shoutouts send your following into the stratosphere. All that exposure and emotion opened up Mick’s following and saw him scream into the coveted 200k+ club. As for his work socially, Mick’s tone on Instagram is meat and potatoes, consistent and always kind. He’s very good with kids and is often donating boards, time and raising awareness for good causes. And, best of all, he’s self-deprecating. Stab posted a frontside air of Mick from Straddie in a period when keyboard warriors were leaving many cruel comments calling out Mick’s lack of air game. Mick commented: “The wind must have gotten under my board when I was trying a floater. Ha!” Just recently he posted a Corey Wilson wipeout shot going over the falls on a NSW reef: “I was ripping this morn.”

My first insta video post! This healthy Galapagos shark followed me in from spearfishing one day and was buzzing the shoreline trying to find the source of the smell (I had speared a couple fish that were on my belt kui). I’d seen Galapagos Sharks beach themselves before, and wanted to see if he’d have a go. I had no intention of letting him have part of one of my fish, but he got the last laugh in the end. This is myself having to manually retrieve one of @natgeo “Critter Cams” off of a 15ft Great White Shark named Bruce. As you can see my speargun is not loaded. I only use it to put a little space between me and the shark should it get a little frisky (and it was sturdier than the broom stick on the boat). The cameras clamp around the dorsal fin and don’t hurt the shark at all. There’s a Zinc wire that holds it closed and is meant to dissolve within two hours causing it to detach and float to the surface where it is retrieved. Something went wrong with the process and three hours later it was still on Bruce’s back. Had to take the wire cutters down and do it by hand when he came in for the bait. All I asked for from Nat Geo was a beer. Still haven’t gotten it! #freedive #shark #sharks #crittercam#greatwhiteshark #riffe #natgeo #nationalgeographic

I was 13 years old when my dad and I moved into our house in Rutledge st on Kirra hill. This was the view I woke up to during my teenage years and where my surfing took off. I’m am so thankful for the most amazing years of surfing at Kirra. Surfing at Kirra made me the surfer I am to this day. Yesterday I narrowly missed out on a world title. It might’ve cost me a bit of emoji (not winning the title) but 2nd ain’t half bad for an old, bald guy.emoji There’s been a lot of talk about scoring and what could have been. Let’s be done with that. What I do know is @mfanno won the world title and shredded all year. A huge congratulations to you, my friend! I surfed like absolute emoji thru Europe this year and lost ground. But I was fortunate enough to get it together and win the #PipeMasters yesterday and have one of the best days of my life in the process! I got to surf these emojiemoji with nobody out! So…did you enjoy that contest yesterday? The waves were ridiculous! There are so many should-haves and could-haves in life. Be happy with the #WhatIs and do better next time you have the chance.
