The New RVCA x Birdwell Collection Is Radical
But what else would you expect from Pat Tenore and Natas Kaupas?
Please allow us to unabashedly fan out for a second.
Following their first hook-up last year, RVCA and Pat Tenore have once again tapped California’s iconic Birdwell for a mash-up, and the resulting collection is a banger, dreamed up by Tenore and Birdie’s Creative Director, Natas Kaupas.
What’s that, you ask? Who is Natas Kaupas?
Only one of street skating’s early heroes! Shredding the Santa Monica boardwalk, and spinning on fire hydrants to fIREHOSE (the band Mike Watt and the rest of the Minutemen started following D. Boon’s death*), in Streets On Fire, he subsequently sent thousands of devil-locked skate rats to the principle’s office for rocking shirts with his name on it, a name which squares took issue with as, when in front of a mirror, Natas’ name spelled S-A-T-A-N…
Anyhow, Natas has had his hands in tons of creative projects since retiring from professional skateboarding, including a notable stint with Quiksilver, and his work modernizing without compromising Birdwell has been impressive, to say the least.
Hit play on the short video about the collaboration above, and check out a little of what Natas and P.M. came up with, below.
*If you have no idea what we’re talking about, or don’t care, we submit the great Minutemen doc. We Jam Econo, for your consideration. Punk rock saved our lives…
