(For all of 2019’s Superior Surf Shorts, head here!)

Volcom guy’s that dude hanging out in the corner at the party. He’s not worried about who’s who, what’s what, he’s just drinking beer and having a good time. Simple. Volcom’s got a team that ranges from Burch to Kaimana Henry, and their trunks meet somewhere in the middle. There are prints in here, a wacky pair by Oscar Wrong, and a pair with a nice solid logo on them. In 2019, it’s nice to see a surf co who’s not afraid of their own logo.

Volcom’s range is diverse by design, but Volcom designer Shane Crow says that their Deadly Mod Plus, are the pair that he’s most excited about. “Everyone wants a pair of hi-fi surf trunks and this is the answer. Basically, we created a trunk that will make you rip that much harder,” Shane laughs.

Whenever Ozzie Wright gets the paints out Volcom are quick to throw a canvas. And why shouldn’t they, Mr Wright really is one of surfing’s living treasures. Ozzie’s got a new range out with the Stone, and there’s a pair of Leopard graphic trunks in there would be the perfect Sunday shirt style addition to the boardshorts quiver. “The dude’s such a legend, absolutely rips and creates the raddest art,” Shane says. “So anytime we can work with him, it’s a win-win. He painted us these rad cat faces, and it’s one of “those things that when you see it you automatically know it’s Ozzie’s art.”

The last pair on the rack is the latest in a long line of Volcom tie-dye. Now bear with us, it’s not as tripped out as you think. “We’ve become kinda known for our tie-dye over the years,” Shane says. “So this year we wanted to try something different by taking inspiration from. Engineered tie-dye tees from the late 60’s early 70’s. Always kinda unsure how something is gonna execute once it’s sent out, especially with all the subtleties of tie-dye, but this short came out mental.”
