Stab’s Most Wanted: Boardshorts
Warm water necessities desired by the Stab fam.
Welcome to the second of Stab’s three part series celebrating little more than our very own hard-programmed hedonistic values. It’s called Stab‘s Most Wanted and it’s a short list of joy inducing items that money can buy, hand picked by Stab Staff from the digital aisles of SurfStitch.com. A wise and iconic surf brand put it best with a simple statement: ‘life is better in boardshorts’.
Regardless of where in the world you take residence, operating without the restraints of a neoprene skin is the preferred way to enjoy the ocean (or synthetic wave generator).
They’re also handy for the gym, the pool, spa, washing your car, or sweating it out at home on a scorching summer day. Some even sport their trunks at social occasions, though pairing with a collared shirt can be a delicate path to wander, tread carefully.
Now that the southern half of the globe has arrived at summer and the north craves for tropical escapes, it’s time to reassess your current surf shorts. Once again, Stab’s passed the Christmas wishlist around the office and come up with a handful of our favourites from SurfStitch.
Slide down and just maybe, you might find inspiration for your next pair.

A good pair of boardies work in and out of the water. As I live in Los Angeles, and the weather remains at a temperate 70-ish degrees (convert that to Celsius if you must, everyone else), boardies with two side pockets and a back one for my wallet is preferred. Also, due to an ever-changing waistline, occasionally size 32-fits a little snug, so I fancy an elastic waistband as well – being that I’m too vain to bump up to 33s. CCS makes a good pair of trunks. They’re surfable, comfortable, cut at the right length and the Plain Janes look nice. I’d like a pair.

I think my Pops had a pair of Rusty trunks just like this when I was an early-90s grom, and I just love the resin-drip fabric.

I acquire dark-ish features as Summer sets in. Ditching the black trucks this season, gimme that hot dog colour palette of mustard on brown!

Due to its elastic waistband, you probably won’t want to surf waves of great heft in Academy’s Palms trunk. That said, the waves in summer are mostly dick-slapping at best, and with this playful palm print these shorts are some of the best water-land hybrids in the game. Just try to have a bad time wearing them – it’s impossible!

Clear conscience, ventilated extremities. Shorts have been creeping up our legs for the past few years, this pair takes it back down a few rungs and don’t strangle your thighs. Superb for exercise or a splash in the brine. They’re also made from recycled nylon. I’d go grey, because we all have enough black trunks in our wardrobes.

Jake Embrey – Stab‘s Coffee Runner
Everyone’s so averse to colour in 2018. But for 2019, I’m gonna rip the lid off the palette. This little number from TCSS will realign every passerby’s gaze and will also help your mum spot you when she watches you go for a surf.
