Some ‘Sliced’ style we dig
Care of Surfstitch, Dion Agius dropped Sliced (Pudding) last week, a digital short by Toby Cregan. It starred, of course, Dion himself, along with friends Craig Anderson and Creed McTaggart. It was a very good watch, about as good as lo-fi digital shorts get, and Dion’s raw surfing housed in Toby’s raw editing felt like watching a rough diamond sparkle on the roof of a cave. Dion’s bent is not just above the lip of a wave, but also in his dry land game, which features many feels towards finely cut threads and luxe products. Some of his, and our, current favourites lie below. Call it a guest editor’s choice, a Sliced Pudding-themed selection, or whatever else you want; All we know is these wares tick boxes. **** Globe Dion Agius Collection Rose Denim Jacket (Black) Coming into the Southern Hemi winter? Layer this denim over some wool. Feel the northern hemi winter tuning up? Slide this over a teo after dark. Dion Agius is accused of many things, being a fashionista among them, which we’re all about, and his recent signature line through Globe speaks to that. There’s some teos, a jersey, some of the best chinos you ever did wear, and this denim jacket. Black like the winter sky and raw like the UAE desert (Electric Blue Heaven!), Dizzle’s denim Jacket features a floral back piece for some extra colour. Even more rare, there’s some elastic stretch in the denim, which you don’t find often in jackets and the comfort of which shall blow your mind hole. This is the best kind of throwback to Globe’s beginnings in the 90s. Buy the Rose Denim Jacket here. **** Marshall Major Headphones (Pitch Black) No company has provided more iconic and quality amplification for the last 50 years than Marshall. They’re one of those brands that go beyond being a brand in their space to being the brand in their space, like pass me a Kleenex or gimme a sip of Coke – plug into the Marshall stack. But guitar amplification isn’t Marshall’s only jam. They’ve also entered the home audio space, offering mini speakers and, more pertinently here, headphones. The Marshall Major Headphones are some of our favourites from that realm. The kink here is that they’re made for music that’s led by guitars (see also: they stick to their guns). But, they obviously jam on all other genres, too. They fold up real neat and tidy. They’re black like any good rock n roll related piece should be. They look and sound good. Ok, yes, please. Buy the Marshall Major Headphones here. **** Epokhe XOA (Antique Gold) The devil really is in the detail here. The XOA, by your pals at Epokhe, are a pince nez style. In keeping with the late 1800s vibe, these are brushed in antique gold. Now, here’s a thing about the XOA: The lack of nose bridge (is it even called that?) is loud in its absence. Then there’s Aviator / Bikie gang ear hooks so, uh, do what you like in these without fear of losing them or fear of looking bad. Buy the Epokhe XOA here. **** Captain Fin Co. Dane Summer Teeth AM2 Fins Do we really need to tell you how good these fins are? You’ll find Captain Fins in Dane Reynolds’ Channel Islands and that on its own should be enough for you, let alone the fact that these are Dane’s very own signature rudders. These are green enough to give your base some extra pop, with a stained glass mosaic-look on just one. They’re made of a Techflex x Fibreglass x Natural composite x honeycomb construction blend, so there’s all that good technology stuff. But, with added cool from both the cut of the AM2 (designed for the short board shredding you’re partial to) and the fact that Dane himself designed the look. Most excellent. Buy the Captain Fin Co. Dane Summer Teeth AM2 here. **** Tame Impala – Innerspeaker LP (Universal) – Vinyl Those organic crackles! All that warmth of sound! The process of placing the needle! There is something ineffable about playing, and listening to, a complete album on vinyl. Especially when that album suits the vinyl format, and perhaps no album released in the last two decades has better suited the needle than Tame Impala’s Innerspeaker. Dream psych born of Kevin Parker’s animal spirit with the peachiest melodies and best use of effects you’ve heard in a stretch. This album is by no means new according to standards of The Internet, but it’s timeless and now that you’ve looped it enough times to realise that, the time has come to take ownership of a perfectly pretentious but timelessly classic format of it. Innerspeaker, on vinyl. Get at it. Buy Innerspeaker by Tame Impala on vinyl here.
