WWII Camo, Marge Calhoun, and the Mysteries of the Universe

This inspired one piece wonder is SEPTEMBER’s best swimwear of 2023

Amid a sea of skimpy, stringy, and otherwise sex-appeal-centric swimwear, this elegant one-piece is decidedly different.

Style: SEPTEMBER Paris One Piece

Color: Evening Storm Print

Price: $174

Designed in collaboration with W’menswear, whose brand slogan is “hard-hitting garments for hard-hitting women” (OK, yes), the Paris One Piece by SEPTEMBER is – to be entirely gushy – beautiful. Made with luxury sustainable Italian fabric (because you and the earth are worth it) and swathed in a muted design by Wʼmenswear founder, Lauren Yates, the singlet feels like functional artwork. Very, very soft artwork.

The ‘sea-foam camouflage’ concept splashed across the bodice is a hand-painted motif inspired by uncommon vintage WWII prints, as well as “the relationship between ʻorder and chaosʼ as inseparable forces of the Universe,” according to Yates. We feel that.

Up Top: The supportive, semi-wide-strap system keeps everything secure without constriction and without sacrificing aesthetic appeal, while a flattering subtle scoop neck prioritizes stay-on-ability while keeping style levels high.

Down Below: Open-back detailing makes for tanned shoulders, balanced by moderate bum coverage and a mid-cut leg for just a little bit of fun.

Favorite features:

  • The luxe hand-feel of the Italian fabric is beyond soft (and should be cared for accordingly).
  • A 78% ECONYL® makeup (a regenerative yarn made up of rescued materials from ghost fishing nets, fabric scraps, and industrial plastic from landfills and oceans all over the world), gives this maillot a high sustainability rating – always a plus.
  • SPF50+ UV sun protection & ultra chlorine resistance are inherent, thanks to the cut and material makeup. This added sun protection results in longevity, both for your skin and the suit itself.
  • Total coverage up top, aided by supportive straps that keep everything snug, secure, and right where you left it.

Overall: Clearly made with waveriding in mind, it’s the considered details of this elegant maillot that truly make it. Supple yet unmoving straps, a subtle scoop neck, and a form-fitting shape that hugs every inch are just to name a few. Chuck this versatile, elevated one piece in your baggage on your next surf excursion and you won’t need another.
