Our Favorite Cold Water Booties Just Got Better

The Side Stripe strikes again.

We can’t begin to tell you how much we enjoyed the last year’s coldest sessions with Vans Surf Boots on our stems.

It makes sense. Their design team’s decades of footwear expertise went into making the world’s most functional surf slides…and they knocked it out of the park. With the first cold blast of winter arriving last weekend, our first-generation Surf Boots felt like old friends.

A few days ago, Vans doubled down on their efforts with the release of the new Surf Boot 2 in both 3mm and 5mm options. An update on last year’s design, they’re meant to keep you uncompromisingly warm while not “sacrificing board feel and grip.”

The new boots are familiarly sleek, but with the addition of extra security and stability from a velcro cross-strap. They’re all we’ll be wearing this winter (and we secretly hope it’s a cold one).

According to the brand, “Everything Vans knows about skateboarding has been instilled in the Surf Boot 2 Hi V 5mm, elevating Vans’ commitment to high-performance technology while addressing the wild and creative needs of our renowned surf team. A crucial companion for cold-water climates with 5mm neoprene, the Surf Boot features a gusseted collar that seals on the calf to improve fit, employing rubber coatings that block water seepage.”

“Placing a premium on board feel and grip, the Vans engineered rubber outsole with micro-waffle siping provides optimal grip on all waxes and water temperatures, with minimal thickness to protect connection with the board. Beyond performance, the Surf Boot 2 Hi V 5mm is loaded with comfort features, including a round-toe construction that allows for universal fit. Bottom-half rubber dipping provides structure where needed while allowing for ease of entry, and the new hook-and-loop strap has been designed with maximum adjustability.”

Long live the side-stripe, and get yours here.
