Hey College Kids, We’ve Got Something For Ya…
Wanna get barreled under an equatorial sun… for class credits?
There is a company, based out of Cardiff By the Sea, California, that preys upon the overworked and underfunded college student.
Their spiel? A once-in-a-lifetime, soul-shaping journey to somewhere (probably) tropical and wavey. On top of that, you’ll learn from experts in the fields of journalism, kinesiology, sustainability, and more — all centered around the sport of surfing. At the end of ten days, you’ll return home sunburnt, surf-stoked, and dripping with college credits.
Sounds like a pyramid scheme. It ain’t.
In fact, it’d be safe to assume that the company, Sea State, has lost money in attempting to provide college surfers with fulfilling academic and life experiences. That’s how much they believe in their work.

Speaking of down the line… how’s this for a classroom vista?
Here’s a snapshot of your trip: You’re surfing everyday, gaining unique skills in both academic and real world capacities, discovering the culture and cuisine of an alien territory, and sharing evening drinks with probably attractive, definitely adventurous people your age. There is no better way to earn points toward your degree.
Now, cash is always the kicker. While these trips don’t run cheap (about $3K USD on average), what’s another few Gs on top of already crippling student debt (Americans) or almost no debt whatsoever (Australians)? No better time to make brash cash decisions than when you’re young!
Sea State just released their new promo vid, produced by one of their ex-students, in an attempt to highlight the worth of their product. If my testimony didn’t quite persuade you, allow this clip to shove your stubborn ass over the edge.
Imagine getting learned in Bali, Portugal, Costa Rica, etc.!
