As a rule, if there’s a swell lighting up near you, you drop everything and chase it. Especially if you work at a surf magazine. Any other action would both be personally regrettable and tarnish public perception. Which is why, when we saw a gamut of swell tinted green and yellow caressing the east coast of Australia, we loaded up the car and hit the road with everything we got. Drive the coast, lose cell service, rub shoulders with locals, dodge sharks, and have a very good time — that whole deal. Unfortunately, a consequential side effect of all this fun is that the coveted COTW didn’t make the site in its typical allotment. Tragic, but a necessary evil. We’re back now, though, rounding up your revered internet cavils and delivering them to your choleric little palms.
