“Australia Gets Its Own Day? How Novel, How Simple”

Edition 120.

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Another week passes us by and the next slowly creeps up on the horizon. The past 7 days on your favourite gentleman’s portal, Stabmag was filled to the brim, featuring journalists in wavepools, Volcom Pipe Pros, vegans, the tragic loss of Pierre Agnes, a seasonal Snapper pulse, new surfboards, Julian Wilson shoulder blowouts, plus a whole lot more.

As always, our loyal, albeit slightly demented, Disqus companions were there to unleash their wit upon it all. Fortunately, the loyal hound, iHusky, was kind enough to step away from the overcrowded Gold Coast points and forage his way through Stab’s underworld.

Here’s what the young pup managed to drag back to his kennel:

10. “Surfing In Australia Does Not Sound Fun”

c10

I wouldn’t have said it if it wasn’t true and I’m sure the rest of you down-under agree with me that there’s no difference between the 26th of Jan and any other day in this sunburnt land. If I had an in depth understanding of the back-end of this site I’d flip the switch and make this ripper no.1.

 9. The (New) Surfboard Stab Won’t Stop Talking About

co9

Have you seen Mikey C. and Dooma tear the West Coast a new one on their Holy Grail’s yet? If not, do yourself a favour and click through. While we’re all well aware that surf journalists aren’t usually as sharp on their sticks as they are at hammering keys, the Holy Grail appears to work wonders! As Phat-wan Kerr (Josh’s long lost cousin) and Choke point out though, screwing in your fins and rubbing on some candle wax doesn’t quite include you in the category of ‘board shaper’.

8. Rory’s Rumblings: What The Facebook/WSL Partnership Really Looks Like

ScaleWidthWyIxMjAwIl0 zucky copy

If you’re a fan of the WSL’s website and it’s online competitive coverage then you were likely disappointed by their new Facebook partnership. While I’m not entirely certain of the scientific credibility of these claims against vegans, these Disqusers do raise an interesting point about the compatibility of mega-corporations and a sport which was once firmly ‘anti-establishment’.

7. True or False: Kelly Slater Likes Beer

Kel

Did you know that Michelob Ultra is the official beer of the WSL? Did you also know that companies pay actors in their advertisements? It could be true that Jimmy Slade loves an Ultra brew, but there’s also a few alternative (read: monetary) explanations. Each and every one of us have a price and in the case of ‘Sevil natas’ he would even start supporting the Brazilian champ for a mere ‘50’ big ones.

6. Watch: “Always More” Starring Noah Wegrich, Nate Tyler, Torren Martyn And Mitch Coleborn

tore

If you had Instagram, ‘Wing Wing’, you’d be able to answer this question yourself. Although Talladega Nights is a damn fine movie and this comment has reminded me of a good way to spend this dreary Saturday afternoon.

5. News No Julian Fan Wants To Hear

co 5 2

Julian Wilson is possibly out of the Quik Pro and my heart is hurting just as much as yours. As ‘Phat’ pointed out though, Julian still has it better than the majority of us, even when he’s spending some time bound to dry land. Don’t worry though, Phat, i’m sure you’ll be able to ‘rub it in’ by yourself over the weekend.

4. Dave Rastovich’s Tales From The Fish

Rasta

This clip featured Rasta slotting his way through picture perfect caverns on some unconventional craft for this modern thruster age. If there’s a maximum performance threshold for the WeedMaps team, i’m more than willing to send through my résumé.

3. The (New) Surfboard Stab Won’t Stop Talking About

C2

If you’re keen to see the river surfing, 007 take on Munich, then you’re in luck. We unfortunately couldn’t splice this cutting edge POV footage into the ‘Holy Grail’ clip, but rest assured it will be featured on site soon or perhaps in the next Kai Neville film.

2. Watch: John Florence Board Testing At Snapper Rocks Today

co 4

The reigning World Champ recently darted to the Gold Coast to test out sixteen blades from Pyzel in anticipation of the first tour stop in 2018; one of these boards was ‘The Ghost’, which slips alongside ‘The Voyager’ and ‘Bastard’

I’ll leave this one up to ‘Claiming Medina’.

“I want it acknowledged that #1 is there because it’s the very reason I came to the site in the first place and is cause for the reputation that Stab should be proud of.” – iHusky.

It’s the team efforts, such as this one, which keep us all coming back for more and what better showcase than this collaborative keyboard bash-fest from some of the site’s best.
