At Some Point In (Nearly) Every Surfer’s Life, Nixon Holds Their Tender Wrists

Here’s a watch to either add to your collection or take your virginity. The Base Tide Pro.

Time, and tide.

Let’s be honest, that’s all the information you need from your wristwatch. That’s the tide where you are currently, too, no one living in Sydney needs to know that it’s high tide in Huntington Beach. We live in overcomplicated times, where companies galore spend time and money inventing gimmicks to try and con the poor unwashed into thinking that shelling out for their product is going to compensate for some shortcoming in their lives. Therefore, it’s refreshing that Nixon are cutting the crap and returning to things that serve a genuine purpose – programmed tides for 550 locales (in case you really need to know what time’s high tide in HB!), a sunrise and sunset feature, and a tide graph directly on screen.

Stab’s fashionista, Alistair Klinkenberg, is embarrassed at his frail wrists, so instead, we shot this Nixon Base Tide Pro on the canvas of our cameraman, Sam Moody.

The Nixon Base Tide Pro is a no frills watch that gives you the tide and time at a glance. It seems obvious, but knowing what the tide’s doing at all times allows you (provided you conduct your life with a little freedom) to structure your day accordingly. Pulling out your phone and navigating your way through apps to learn the tide is no way to live.

While we’re on the subject, and seeing that he was good enough (for a considerable annual sum) to star in the visuals, how good a time does Chippa Wilson look like he’s been having in the past year? He’s been everywhere: Airborne, mammoth Indo stints, plenty of nights in between, it’s just an exemplary existence for a man entering his early thirties, bringing hope to us all that the fun’s not over, quite yet. How do you centre your day around maximum fun? Tide and time friends, time and tide.

The tide walks with a time box.

The Base Tide Pro’s a chic design that’s designed to function. It comes in a variety of colours (yes, all black is one) and is one of the rare accessories that you needn’t take off. From a suit to a pair of trunks and everything in between, streamline your day and cut out unnecessary screen time.

Grab yourself a no frills timepiece and live well.
