Yup, Pete Devries Still Rips

Surfing’s Token-Canadian hasn’t missed a beat.

Do you remember Taylor Steele’s genius surf film concept, Innersection? The idea behind Innersection was this: Any surfer from around the world could film himself, edit of those clips, and submit it to an internet portal. The best entries were then voted on by surf fans, and the winning clips were included in the film.

Innersection was brilliant for two main reasons. One, it allowed previously undiscovered talent to blossom in front of the world. Two, Taylor Steele got to put his name on, and profit from, an entire surf film without hardly lifting a finger. The man was a revolutionary.

But back to the undiscovered talent part. I’m sure that Pete Devries, a now-34-year-old man from Tofino, Canada, was great at surfing years before this film, but it wasn’t until Intersection that I knew his name or could identify his skinny-legged, knock-kneed style. Seven years later, Pete remains a successful pro surfer and is someone whose clips I’m always happy to view.

Hopefully you feel the same.
