Who The Hell Is Sam Jones?

Allow me to re-introduce you to Sydney’s 20-year-old tube fiend, Sam Jones. 

“Sam Jones?” you might be thinking. “I’ve never met no stinking Sam Jones.” Oh but you have! Not 3 months ago, Sam was the an/protagonist of my Sydney-based tube-chasing series. In one instance, Sam prohibited me from scoring incredible waves due to an unjustified love for his local. In the next, he was having the session of his life while I cowered in the channel. It’s a love-hate thing between Sam and me. 

Today Sam released Winters Past, a highlight reel of his last three years in Aussie tube-chasing. Watching this clip, I have to fight off a certain sense of rage toward old mate, as his willingness and ability to tackle girthy waves leaves me feeling shriveled and emasculated. For most of this clip Sam was still a teenager, and tackling waves far beyond the lifetime expectations of most. Having seen Sam’s approach in person, I’ll say this video only scratches the surface of his true potential. But then maybe I’m biased.
