Stab Exclusive: Whatever Happened, with Jay Davies
This, ladies and gents, is the latest release from the prince of the West – Jay Davies. And it’s fucking brilliant. There’s only 14 waves in this three-minute Stab exclusive, but that’s all he needs to make you rethink what is humanely possible on a piece of foam for a man of such impressive stature. Filmed by Tom Jennings and meticulously cut by Wyatt Davies, “Whatever Happened” features a typically composed Jay D weaving through hearty holes along the West Australian coastline and launching his big hulking frame off sections that most of us would struggle to free our fins on. The song, Whatever Happened to the Million Head Collide by Pond, like most of their work, is wrapped in purposefully broken tempo (which we love!). It’s unpredictable, loud, and it’s very much in your face. Not too dissimilar to Jay’s surfing, right? See for yourself.
