Last time we ran Stab High, Sierra Kerr stuck a flawless full-rotation in the Ladybirds final, prompting an eruption of cheers from a rickety tower off the island of Sumbawa and a $20k Monster Air check in her name.

The nature of Stab High, Presented by Monster Energy has changed dramatically in its five iterations. Following the first two live iterations at the PerfectSwell pool in Waco, Texas (2018 & 2019), we pivoted to an episodic series in the ocean, with events in the Mentawai Islands (2020), Central America (2021), and Lakey Peak (2022).

In 2024, we’re going back to the live event format — this time at Japan’s PerfectSwell Shizunami wavepool. We’ve been admiring their ramp for over two years, and on June 22nd and 23rd, we’ll see what surfing’s favorite alt-stars can do with it.

With support from YETI, we’re excited to announce three divisions in this year’s event: Mens, Ladybirds (15-and-under girls), and Bottle Rockets (15-and-under boys). Additionally, the Monster Air Award will be won by the surfer who performs the most impactful air of the competition, regardless of division.

Chippa Wilson, Ian Crane, Harry Bryant, Noah Beschen, Julian Wilson, Matt Meola, Mikey Wright, Noa Deane, Robbie McCormick, Luke Swanson, Mason Ho and Kaito Ohashi are just a few of the headliners in our 2024 event. The complete Men’s 36-surfer field will be announced in the coming weeks.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Stab High without a fresh flock of Ladybirds presented by YETI. The world’s best 15-and-under flygirls will be spreading their wings in Japan, with hopes of joining Caity Simmers, Erin Brooks, and 2x champ Sierra Kerr — who have all recently flown the nest — as Ladybirds champions.

And for the first time ever, we’ll be introducing our new Bottle Rockets division presented by YETI — featuring the Ladybirds’ highly explosive 15-and-under male counterparts.

Stab High Japan, Presented by Monster Energy will take two days to run. Each day will feature roughly five hours of surfing, from 9 AM to 2 PM local time (JST). If you haven’t been booking calls with your colleagues in Tokyo of late, we got you. Here’s what that looks like elsewhere:

Los Angeles: 5 PM – 10 PM (-1 day), Friday, June 21st and Saturday, June 22nd
Rio de Janeiro: 9 PM – 2 AM (-1 day), Friday, June 21st and Saturday, June 22nd
Sydney: 10 AM – 3 PM, Saturday, June 22nd and Sunday, June 23rd
Paris: 2 AM – 7 AM, Saturday, June 22nd and Sunday, June 23rd

So, how do you watch Stab High Japan, Presented by Monster Energy live? There are two options:

  1. Have a Stab Premium account. We’re broadcasting the live event exclusively there, at no additional charge to members.
  2. Join us in Japan! Tickets are currently on sale here, and it’s reasonable to believe you won’t have another opportunity to jump in on something like this. Remember: PerfectSwell Shizunami is a three-minute walk to the ocean — and it’d be rude not to book a few sessions before or after the event so that you can expose your own palette to the delights of PerfectSwell’s technology.

We’d advise you to commit the dates to memory but, rest assured, we’ll be making some noise about this thing as it approaches.

Stab High Japan, Presented by Monster Energy, is supported by YETI, Skullcandy, Sun Bum, Sambazon, and GoPro.
