What In The World Is Chuffed?

Nothing says Australian surf porn like a red-flame-adorned Mt. Woodgee stick.

Joel Paxton’s latest edit is decidedly Antipodean, or so I thought. The six-minute piece finds Joel surfing a variety of well known Australian waves on the continent’s east and west coasts, as well as Indonesia. I was, however, caught off guard by a sporadic bit of nudity at 4:56—nudity that could be summed up in one word: France. This is one situation in which I’m grateful not to be viewing things from Joel’s perspective. 

Joel’s got an impressive approach at just 20 years of age—one that reminds us of Kale Walsh, in the sense they both have a tendency to stick airs in parts of the wave that make the viewer physically wince. Despite Joel breaking his leg in France a few years ago, he doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.

Before watching this, Stab’s American contingent had no idea what ‘Chuffed’ meant. Confused, we called up Joel to gain some wisdom regarding his edit title to which he replied, ‘It’s just like you’re happy, you could say you’re dead chuffed!’
