What Happens When A Supertubos-Bred Charger Visits Mexpipe?
Miguel Blanco demonstrates with comically clean lines.
Many places around the world have a wave that locals compare to Pipeline.
In Portugal, it’s the sand-bottomed Supertubos. In Mexico? Surely you already know it’s Puerto Escondido. And in sleepy Southern California, it’s Newport Point (once every 80 or so years).
With the North Atlantic on its yearly summer hiatus, the Supertubos-bred Miguel Blanco recently set his sights on a wave not unlike the Portuguese Pipeline, this one deep in the bowels of Mexico. What Miguel found was 10-to-12-foot teepees up and down Playa Zicatela, which thanks to his tube-hunting adolescent years, gave Miguel little issue.
With Puerto now crossed off his list and double-hurricane extravaganza veering toward SoCal, Miguel might consider flying to Newport Beach to complete his 2018 faux-Pipeline trifecta.
