Watch: Stab’s Guide To The Gold Coast
Stab and Summer Bright explore a vibrant pocket of surf culture!
Welcome to episode five of About Town, a new series by Stab and Summer Bright in which we explore, with gusto, the most vibrant pockets of Australian surf culture. We’re all fond of a road trip, or a weekend getaway. It’s the Australian dream!
So here’s your definitive how-to guide to the finer notes of our fav surf towns: Where to get coffee, where to surf, where to jump off, who to watch out for in the lineup, where to dine, where to enjoy some post-surf suds, and more.
For this episode, we’ve dipped into Southern Queensland, a region built on Australian surf culture. And, as is tradition, we tapped a few local pros to be our guides while we peered out at the neat lines of the almighty Super Bank, wound through tree-lined streets at Greenmount, followed the Gold Coast Highway past Kirra, checked the sand at Currumbin and sampled Burleigh’s treasures.
Mitch Crews took us through Tugun and wore a twin fin (shaped by his brother) with aplomb! We wandered Burleigh Heads with Jay ‘Bottle’ Thompson, while Mark Occhilupo beamed at the opportunity to host our tour of Coolangatta’s magical stretch, sipping his go-to smoothie and reminiscing on a life-long bond with the area.
And, thankfully the waves showed!
Be sure to look out for other big-name cameos within – it’s hard to wander these streets and not brush by the faces that represent the region on surfing’s world stage.
Come on, Pop the top!
