Watch: Snapt4, In Its Entirety
Jack Robbo, Mason Ho, Clay Marzo and more joust for the $50k grand prize.
A little over two years ago, Logan Dulien set out to make the fourth installment of his multi-generational surf film series, Snapt.
The original Snapt films (1&2) were released in the early 2000s and starred the Irons brothers, Mick Fanning, Bobby Martinez, Taj Burrow, and a then-unknown Gold Coast talent named Asher Pacey (yes, ol’ swivel hips rode the standard 6’2 x 17″ shortboard back then).
Following a 15-year hiatus (the reasons for which are explained here), Logan returned with Snapt3 in 2017, starring the next generation of wax stompers (Mason Ho, Parker Coffin, Jack Robinson, etc.) along with a few of the OGs (Bobby, Bruce, and Asher).
Snapt4 is pure youth. Its stars include Mason Ho, Jack Robinson, Clay Marzo, Seth and Josh Moniz, Zeke Lau, Barron Mamiya, Parker Coffin, Benji Brand, Ian Crane, Eithan Osborne, Carlos Muñoz, Sheldon Paishon, and more. Only Mr. Pacey remains from the old guard.
But Logan always pays his respects, which is why he made Mick, Taj, and Bobby, the official judges of this year’s film. They’ll be independently scoring the sections out of 10, and the winners (based on a combined 30-point scale) will receive the following prizes:
1st place: $50,000
2nd place: $20k
3rd place: $10k
4th place: $10k
Best barrel: $10k*
Monster Maneuver: $10k*
Now that the film is live, Mick, Bobby, and Taj have the rest of the month to watch, analyze, and pick their favorites. The winners will be announced in Hawaii during the Haleiwa event window (Nov 26 – Dec 7).
According to Logan, the order of the film has no bearing on who wins. It could be Benji (first section), Mason (last section), Clay or Jack (both in the middle), or Salmon Boy**.
A final word from Logan:
“Falling back in love with surfing and making these movies literally saved my life, and I’m eternally humbled to be in this position putting out my fourth movie. Having these guys trust me with their best content means the world to me. Especially considering six-and-a-half years ago I was a full-blown opioid junky, in and out of rehabs. My life was a straight-up disaster, and I was on the brink of death multiple times. Snapt saved me for sure…and I don’t think it will be the last one.”
*Logan has bestowed the Stab staff with the honor of selecting the best barrel and Monster maneuver winners. More on that soon.
**Salmon was the odds-on favorite coming into the film, but an untimely arrest in Costa Rica has left his eligibility in question. More as that story develops.
