Watch: Shane Borland Shut Down The New Saudi Pool 

Wave pools, huh. 

From experiment to occult mystery, rejected, embraced, then dismissed again as a gimmick. Now, perhaps finally earning their seat at the table as a legitimate part of surfing.

Pools certainly serve their purpose, if only to show how far one can push the technical limits in the air when given unfettered access to perfect ramps. Something you might encounter in the ocean once in a while, now yours for the asking.

And if we’re counting technical progress, Shane Borland’s having a little moment under the progressive sun. Newly signed with Brixton, he’s right at the top echelon of showing us what’s possible in pools. State of the art mechanical tech meets a body engineered to exploit it.
