Watch: ‘Marked Absent’ Starring Sammy Lowe
Mick Lowe’s offspring surfs like Jacob Willcox.
Who is Sammy Lowe?
A question that deserves a response, though I almost skipped it myself. You see, when this edit landed in my inbox, I briefly mistook it for Tom Lowe, the big-wave Brit with more tattoos than bare-skin. A man who is somehow the very embodiment of ‘core,’ despite a voice that sounds like it belongs at a tea party in a Cotswolds cottage, surrounded by retirees in pastel cardigans.
I have a soft spot for Tom, despite momentarily forgetting his first name, so I made my coffee and clicked play with a bit of extra pep in my phalanges.
But this wasn’t Tom Lowe. This was Sammy Lowe. No relation, as far as I can tell. No tattoos, no gapped teeth, but the same fetish, it seems, to stuff oneself inside hostile pits like a man with no fear of death.
If you need an introduction, Sammy Lowe is an 18-year-old goofy-foot from Illawarra who once managed to split his nether regions in half in Hawaii. He’s the son of Mick Lowe, a CT veteran from the late ’90s and early 00s, who finished 6th in the world in 2002 in a year that also saw him win Fiji and finish runner-up at Jbay.
Sammy’s got the competitive pedigree, no doubt. He took out the u/18 national title last year and has since dipped his toes in the open QS scene.
Sammy might also be in a band, or at least has significant stock in one. His new edit, Marked Absent, chopped together by Zac Heywood, features four back-to-back Hockey Dad tracks. It’s well worth your time. Watch above.
