Watch: Julian Wilson’s Last-Minute Gut-Punch to His Newcastle Competitors

Big jumps, hearty turns, and a big f-you to his round 1 opponents.

Major American sports teams will often write clauses excluding their major stars from participating in dangerous extra-curricular activities such as skating, surfing, and motocross.

Thankfully (and for a variety of reasons) this rule need not apply to Julian Wilson.

Unburdened by the requirements that come with a major sponsor and the drone of a competitive schedule, Julian got to spend some much-needed quality time at home with his brother and their growing families. With swell in the water, Julian essentially got to do whatever the fuck he wanted, which entailed riding motorcycles exceptionally well and surfing in a manner that should thoroughly frighten anyone he draws in the upcoming events.

After listening to last week’s episode of The Drop and learning of Julian’s recent relocation to Newcastle, coupled with the fact that he and local boy (and my pick to win this event) Ryan Callinan went one-two at last year’s Burton Automotive Pro, it’s surprising that Julian still somehow feels like an underdog here. Maybe that’s why he dropped this the day before the event starts. The turn at 1:48 is an 8 in any era, and the opening air? No commentary needed.

Click above to watch, that is unless you have Julian in a heat today, in which case get the voodoo dolls out. You’re gonna need it.
