Watch: Jordy Lawler’s Assault On Narrabeen Would Make Tom Carroll, Hedgey, Et Al Proud
He won the Sydney Pro last year, here’s his recent freesurfing edit.
Jordy Lawler isn’t a ‘new name’ in surf. He’s graced our pages as a North Narrabeen grom for a handful of Full Frames, and last year he won Vissla’s Sydney Surf Pro. He’s now 25, and with the QS being put on hold has had some time to put together a clip shot around Australia’s East Coast. Which, as you all know, has been firing this year.
The clip is appropriately titled Motherland. And it features all the sorts of waves we’re thankful to have on the east coast: big tubes, playful beachbreaks, and a bevy of reefs breaks.
Jordy has spent a large part of the past-decade on the Qualifying Series obtaining a handful of respectable results. If he can translate his surfing above into results – when the QS resumes – we may just see Jordy nearing a Championship Tour birth.
Below is a few brief questions and answers with Jordy.
How old are you?
I’m 25-years old.
Where did you grow up?
I live at North Narrabeen and have my whole life.
How’ve you been keeping busy this year (through the obvious)?
I’ve been working on that clip for about four weeks or so, but just mainly spending time with family and friends.
First plans once Covid is over?
Probably travel and see my girl overseas or something along those lines.
Are you going to focus more on competing again in the future?
Yeah definitely. It’s always been my goal to get on the CT ever since I was a grom – putting on red rashies and then free surfing.
Winning the Sydney Pro was huge!
Yeah that was sick I remember that day clear as day… just not that night [laughs]. Was great to have all my friends and family around stoked for me.
Lastly, where was the clip filmed?
North coast, south coast and home. All at spots I love along this coastline!
