Watch: Jamie O’Brien And Mike Stewart Go Doubles On A Second-Reef Pipe Bomb

Does this beat the one they shared 20 year ago?

A fresh jolt of 317-degree energy electrified Oahu’s North Shore today, turning Pipe from a succulent 6-to-8 foot in the morning to 12-foot washthroughs by lunch.

While the conditions (understandably) deterred a large portion of the crowd, the same could not be said for Pipeline’s masters of their respective crafts, Jamie O’Brien and Mike Stewart.

O’Brien, the 41-year-old Vans Pipe Masters competitor, chipped in from deep Second Reef and S-turned his way through the flat section while Stewart, the 61-year-old bodyboarding world champ, took a beeline for the impending double-up.

Pulling in behind Stewart, no doubt eating a fair portion of his wake, JO grabbed his pink missile tight and pointed it toward the nearest entrance. Stewart joined later through the front door, disappearing behind both curtain and spit, before being delivered safely to Gums’ sand-bottomed haven. Jamie emerged shortly after, wasting no time to throw his hands skyward in an incredulous claim.

Who could blame him?

What makes this moment truly special is that it’s not the first time Jamie and Mike have shared a roll-in Pipe tube. Roughly 20 years ago, as seen Jamie’s 2006 film Freakside, the two shared an eerily similar ride that became seared in this writer’s memory bank. Maybe yours, too.

Enjoy below.

Just hit play — it’s timecoded to the double-tube.
