Watch: Italo And Gabby Joust In Portugal

Imagine for one moment that you are Gabriel Medina. It’s a Saturday in Portugal and the comp has been called off and your friend Italo rings you for a surf. You’d really prefer to surf alone, but Charlie points out that you can’t just be friends with Neymar. Neymar is obviously very cool but it’s important to remain cordial with your subordinates on the tour. 

So you go down to the specified praia and find a windy but fun left-hander. Italo is there in his Audi and Timbs, and as you pull up he delivers a cool nod, indicating that the two of you are in fact out there. You slide on your Flashbomb 3/2 and chase down Italo, who is wearing only a wetsuit top and boardshorts, at the water’s edge. Per Charlie’s request, you go in for the pre-sesh high-five but are embarrassingly denied. You curse Charlie’s outmoded perception of cool and promise to never again surf with said subordinates.
