Watch: Brodi Sale Sets His Sights (And His Tail) High
The 16-year-old Hawaiian transplant has big expectations for himself.
Everyone wants to be successful, but not everyone wants to put in the work.
Brodi Sale, on the other hand – he’s ready to grind, and boy is it refreshing.
You may remember the gangly Hawaiian (he grew 12 inches in one year!) from his semifinal finish at this year’s Volcom Pipe Pro. Yep, you read that right. The Newport Beach native’s parents moved to the Big Island at the age of 2; fast forward 14 years, and the kid is surfing Pipeline with three other guys out for a shot at the Volcom Pipe Pro final.
While such early success would shift many groms into cruise control, Brodi is as ambitious as ever. And with a support system that includes Shane Dorian and Rainos Hayes, along with his parents, there’s no wonder where his motivation comes from.
You ever meet someone that just seems to have things figured out? Yeah, that’s Brodi. He plans to graduate from high school early (class of 2021) with at least a 3.5 GPA, all while continuing to surf bigger QS events, and by the age of 18, Brodi wants to have a real crack at the CT. Until then, he will be keeping busy by traveling, surfing, training, and studying.
Look at that, a young kid that is willing to work for his success – ain’t that somethin’?
