Watch: “Black Boy”
The unlikely story of West Javanese stylemaster, Deni Firdaus
While Indonesia has been Ground Zero for performance surfing since waves were discovered there fifty some odd years ago, it’s easy to ignore the resplendent sand points and softer, sheltered coves that make for some damned fine traditional logging waves. Raised on the right points of Batu Karas, young Deni Firdaus (@deniblackboys) has developed into a world class log stylist.
Enjoying the company and tutelage of Aussie and American loggers passing through, like fellow Deus folks Harry Roach and Zye Norris (featured above alongside Thomas Bexon, Husni Ridwan, and Matt Cuddihy), this nine-minute profile from the Temple of Enthusiasm is a must-see for anyone traditionally inclined.
