Yes, but also no. Take Alex Gray for example, who lost his main sponsor Volcom a few years back and has been keeping the dream alive via smaller endorsements and (likely) personal savings. Then there’s Wade Goodall, who despite having a Vans sticker loud and proud on his beak, has been struggling to score surf for his upcoming film release.

Trip after trip, skunked!

Granted Alex and Wade both scored in Micronesia, but that comes with a list of its own problems – sunburn, reef rash, eyes that sting from the curdling offshores. Worst of all, getting tubed so many times probably desensitizes you to the sight of the sacred tunnel – an ailment for which there is no known cure.
