Very Large France, And The Art Of The Sand Enema
Joan Duru, Marc Lacomare, and Maud Le Car perform the ritual.
You probably don’t remember when the French Connexion first made its way into the surfing bubble — I didn’t either.
Way back in 2011, Joan Duru, Marc Lacomare, and Charly Martin were spending most of their days racking up as many QS points as possible, all in an effort to move upstairs to the penthouse with the big boys. The video log was an effort to document and share their journey, along with moments outside of competition.
Out of the trio, Duru eventually made it to the CT, spending three years on tour between 2017 and 2019 before dropping off. Recently, he managed to finish 9th and 5th, respectively, as a replacement wildcard at the 2023 and 2024 editions of the Portugal Pro.
To close out this Euro summer, Duru and Lacomare took the W at The Quiksilver Festival in Memory of Jeremy Flores’ Lost Pen, proving just how far local knowledge goes in that part of the world. And if that seems like a lucky one-off, look no further than the first edition of the festival, where the pair ended only 0.15 points behind the winning duo of Michel Bourez and Jeremy Flores.
As the first winter storms start delivering aquatic treats along the European coastline, the pair — joined by Maud Le Car and others — decided to tug on the nostalgia strings and serve up a locally harvested, multi-course meal from the winter past.
This edit, co-produced by Le Surfing and directed by Andy Benetrix, celebrates the second coming of French Connexion while doubling up as a mouth-watering amuse bouche for what, with a fair degree of certainty, is about to go down once again in Southwest France.
