The Relentless Quirk And Character Of Matty Wilko

“Hopefully I can invent something and make like a billion dollars!”

Matty Wilkinson, from his early days on tour, has provided Professional Surfing some much needed comic relief.

Whether it be the dollar bill- or breast-covered wetsuits, showing up to the competitor’s area on rollerskates, or his Out2Brunch video blog (remember when every surfer served as their own media house?)—which featured clips of him being dominated by a French woman, who licks whip cream off his nipples, while he shakes his head in terror—Wilko’s never been afraid to play the role of entertainer.

As a kid, he spent his time in a bus with his father, driving around the coast, surfing. Then he turned 17 and continued the trend with friends.

Here’s an enjoyable snapshot of Wilko’s career courtesy of Pro-Lite INT – from the irreverent young party animal the surfing audience grew to love, to the man who’s taken the yellow jersey multiple times and has kept himself in the title conversation over the past few years.

He acts like a young professional living the dream, not like an overly focused robot.

“Professionalism” comes in many forms, and this is our favorite.
