The Lei Days Broke At The Volcom Pipe Pro Yesterday
Not bad, not good.
If you’re watching day two of the Volcom Pipe Pro, you’re probably thinking about how manageable Backdoor looks right now (looks can be deceiving). After a string of lei days, Pipe clicked on yesterday. However, it’s nothing like the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout, but more on par with the surf of the Pipe Masters. And as the Volcom Pipe Pro is typically the most exciting contest at the Banzai, a tricky forecast lies ahead. Tomorrow the swell will peak then be followed by breezy Kona winds and rain, expect more lei days. And because it’s possible we won’t see heart pumping Pipe for the remainder of the event, here’s a reminder of how proper this contest was last year. Don’t lose hope yet, there’s still seven days left in the waiting period, and conditions tend to switch swiftly on the North Shore.
